Texas isn't an attitude,
it's a state of mind ... mine!

This section's name derives from the following true tale:

Paint Horse, Creek and Me
by Betty Atkins

When I was five, I had the most beautiful Paint Horse. Her name was Trinker.

In the mornings I'd sneak a couple of Mama's fresh biscuits and run down to the corral where she was kept. She would ignore me until I'd climbed up to the top board of the fence to sit with my heels braced against the next to top board and begin to eat.

That was always her cue to saunter over, stretch out her beautiful mottled white, brown and black neck to take a sniff. I'd hand her the biscuit I was holding in the other hand and sit watching her savor each morsel.

As soon as she was finished she'd sidle up next to me so's I could transfer myself from the fence to her back. I'd grab a good handful of  mane and guide her over to the gate. She knew just how to turn so's I could lift the wire loop and set us free to hurry down to the creek and play all day.

Irish and Celtic Music is perfect for a Texas page, when you remember that many of the big ranches were owned and operated by Irish, Scottish and English consortiums. Imagine a rawboned cowboy riding up to another range hand and saying, "Ah, an tis a braw bright dee now tisn't it?" Or, "Begorra, an I'm that fair hungry, aye, that  I am."  Or how about a 'toughy' threating another, "I do believe you should lay down that gun."

Texas means 'Friend'
Texas was a country before it was a state There are 23 languages and 63 nationalities - from mountains to prairies and everything in between, you'll find it in Texas; What you won't find are natural lakes, they are all man-made. Texas doesn't have climate, it has weather, and usually it's extreme.
