Nelda Rogers decided that it was Wagstaff, born in about 1750 in VA, and proceeded with indepth information about him and his wife from the book, "Cannady and Allied Families" by Elizabeth Adams Tissot and Agnes Cannady Cashwell.

Rogers believed that Wagstaff's parents were Hughand Mildred Wagstaff Hutcheson Kennedy, married 11/6/1735 in St.Paul's Parish. There is no record of them after 1736 in the vicinity. One story is that Wagstaff was raised by his Uncle William Kennedy, who married Margaret Linee in 1747.

Rogers wrote that in the 1760s there were a number of Cannady and Wagstaff families who had settled further inland in Lunenberg, Hallifax, and Mecklenburg counties in Virginia, near Wake and Granville counties in North Carolina, where our Wagstaff Cannady ultimately settled. Rogers quotes 1768 and 1769 tax records of Wake Co showing that Wagstaff was there. In 1773 he and his wife were baptized by the Baptist Church in Rowan Co. "PHILIP PETE R ARRIVED IN PHILADELPHIA ON 14 OCT 1731 WITH IS WIFE ALLEN A (ANNA HELENA), TWO OF HIS SONS JOHN PETER AND JOHN ADAM . THEY LIVED IN COLALICO TOWNSHIP, IN LANCASTER CO., PA. THEY CAME FROM EUROPE ABOARD THE SHIP "SNOW LOWTHER." (INSERT HERE FROM PAGE vii OF HIS BK. "THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL PROPOSALS FOR THE MEANING OF THE SHIPS NAME, SNOW LOWTHER. ONE PROPOSAL IS THAT THE NAME TRANSLATES TO SNOW WHITE, IF TH E SHIP WERE OF DUTCH REGISTRY. IF THE SHIP IS OF ENGLISH REGISTRY, LOWTHER WOULD BE THE NAME OF THE SHIP, AND SNOW WOULD REFER TO THE TYPE OF SHIP.") I DON'T KNOW THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE OTHER CHILDREN BORN IN HASSLOCH, EDENKOBEN, GERMANY. (EDENKOBEN IS A SMALL TOWN APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES, OR 32 KILOMETERS, SOUTHWEST OF MANNHEIM, GERMANY.) PHILIP PETER OBTAINED A LAND GRANT IN LANCASTER CO., PA., IN 1737. HIS FAMILY ATTENDED MUDDY CREEK CHURCH THERE. PHILIP'S GODFATHER WAS A.D. HARDT, A WELL-KNOWN PHARMACIST FROM NEUSTADT. " (INFO FROM BK. "WHISNANTS THROUGHT THE AGES" BY RAYMOND C . WHISNANT, PAGE 1.

Also written on page 1 by Raymond Whisnant is written, "Author's note: I obtained Philip's day of birth from Rex James Whisnand. The information presente d below on Philip Peter and his children came from the "QUA RTERLY OF THE PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN SOCIETY", Vol 12, No.2, A pril 1978. page 17:

'Visanant, Philip Peter, Hassloch Snow Lowther, 14 Oct. 1731 (S-H, I, pg. 54-57) with John Peter, Allena, John Adam

Hassloch Reformed records: Philip Peter Visenant and his wife Helena had the following children baptized at Hassloch: Anna Maria b. 2 May 1711; bp 6 May Johann Peter b. 4 Feb. 1714; bp. 7 Feb. Joh. Nickolaus b . 24 Feb. 1717; bp 28 Feb. Johann Adam b. 3 Sept. 1719; bp . 8 Sept. Heinrich b. 27 Sept. 1722; bp. 4 Oct.

' He married Anna Helena Neff, daughter of Conradt Neff, 9 Jul 1710, in Hassloch, Edenkoben, Germany. Born, before 1695, in Germany. Died in Lancaster Co., PA. Author's note: The marriage date for Philip and Anna is per Dee Whisenhunt, Chino Valley, AZ. He obtained the date from the Mormon Church Family History Center, 'Evangelisch records.' Their records show Anna Helena's last name as 'Steffen' instead of 'Neff'. The difference in names might be explained by the following quote from "THE SHOE COBBLER'S KIN", Vol II, pg 19:

' Jahrgong 1710:-Philip Peter Visinand Von Cortier aus dem Welschen Schweitzerland mit Jgfr Anna Helena, conradt Neffen Gem einsmans V. Webers Alhieehl. Tochter. (Translation) - Year 1710 Philip Peter Visinand from in the french speaking part of Switzerland, with the single Anna Helena, daughter of Conradt Neff citizen and weaver here. There is no place called Cortier in Switzerland, but there are three Corsier : 1246 Corsier, Geneva Canton 1801 Les Monts-de-Corsier, Vaud Canton 1804 Corsier-sur-Vevey, Vaud Canton (likely thi s one)

The number means the zip code. It is somewhat surprising that his Swiss origin is given although he was born in Heilsbruck, but Swiss people maintain Swiss citizenship also after their emigration, and this may mean that he was still a citizen of his father's town.

' Author's note: The above information was transcribed literally from THE SHOE COBBLER'S KIN. I have reprinted it here for those of you who are unable to find a copy of this book. As you can see, 'Neffen' has been translated to 'Neff'."
