St. Andrews Parish Church was located at the present site of Cochran, Virginia, Approximately 12 miles to the North of the North Carolina - Virginia line on Interstate 85. The parish was formed in 1720. Its territory included all of Brunswick County, which was formed in the same year and extennded westward to the mountains. However, Dt. Andrews Parish did not begin its Vestry and Registery Book until 1732, the same year that a Civil Government began. The Civil and Ecclesiastical governments of Virginia during these times were entertwined. Many of the county's justiices were also Church Vestrymen. In the first known Vestry for the parish, about one-half were gentlemen justices. These justices (Court) were responsible, among other duties, for seeing that the lands within its jurisdiction were properly processioned. This was a procedure by which the boundries of each person's land would, once every four years, be walked off and "the land marks renewed". Three processionongs of a person's land were considered sufficient to establish permantly its boundries. John Nipper II was assigned to procession lands in his area on one occassion.
