bullet  General Notes:

"When Samuel Washington Lindley died in 1859, his estate was administered in 1860, probated in November, 1859 term of Montgomery County, valued at $26, 299.50, consisted of seven slaves valued at $5, 950.00; personal property of $3,475.75; 700 acres of land $8,400.00; 700 acres of unimproved land on Caney Creek valued at $4,200.00; other $3,8776.25 and $497.50. It has been said he had so much land he never did walk on some of it. When Samuel Washington Lindley died, his third wife (my note: actually, she was probably his fourth wife), Martha Taylor Allphin, tried to get all of his estate, and the children took the matter to court and won, but because of this, they would never put a marker at his grave. Samuel was also the administrator of his son, Jonathan's estate, which consisted of about $1,500.00 filed in Vol. A., Probate Records of Montgomery County, Texas, March 26, 1838, being the following: $150.00 serving at the Alamo, $150.00 having been killed at the Alamo; cattle, hogs, cash on hand, notes owing to him; and 1,280 acres (bounty land) in Rusk, Panola and Smith Counties, Texas.
